The event industry’s biggest and most prestigious recognition programme
October 8 saw more than 550 event professionals gather at Battersea Evolution in London for the 34th annual M&IT Awards, where the winners across 14 categories were announced. The black tie event, organised by Northstar Meetings Group, got underway with a champagne reception and entertainment from The British Imperial Military Band before a three-course gala dinner and awards ceremony hosted by television presenter Gethin Jones.
It was an emotional night, as event professionals came together to celebrate and honour the sector after what has been a difficult 18 months for so many. Meetings Industry Association chief executive Jane Longhurst was named Personality of the Year in recognition of her tireless campaigning on behalf of the sector through the pandemic.
While all categories reflected the outstanding efforts of finalists in a year like no other, two new awards were specifically designed to recognise organisations and people responding to the challenges of Covid-19, with Venues & Events International taking home the Best Crisis Response award and The Venue Collection picking up Team Of The Year.
The night also saw industry charity Meeting Needs raise thousands with a table raffle and present its David Hackett Award for outstanding achievement to SongDivision. Following the awards, event professionals partied the night away on the dancefloor to the sounds of live band Flood the Floor.
