Venue spotlight: London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square

A polished Mayfair address, flexible event spaces and crowd-pleasing Gordon Ramsay dining make the London Marriott Grosvenor Square a smart, central choice for UK meeting and event planners, says Paul Harvey.

If you’re the sort of planner who wants a central London address that instantly reassures clients, delegates and stakeholders that they’re in safe hands, the London Marriott Grosvenor Square should be firmly on your radar.

Sitting right in the heart of Mayfair, this is a hotel with serious heritage credentials - it was the very first Marriott to open in London, and only the third in Europe - but it’s also one that has clearly spent time thinking about what modern meetings and events actually need.

Location-wise, it’s hard to fault. Grosvenor Square places you in one of London’s most prestigious neighbourhoods, flanked by embassies, historic architecture and some of the capital’s best dining and shopping. Oxford Street, Bond Street and Regent Street are all a short walk away, Hyde Park is just around the corner, and Soho’s theatres and nightlife are close enough for a post-event wander. For overseas delegates or clients looking for a “this is London” experience, it ticks a lot of boxes without trying too hard.

First impressions count, and the recent refurbishment has transformed the arrival experience. The new-look lobby is flooded with natural light, with a refined Art Deco feel that sets the tone nicely. The new Lobby Lounge is a smart addition too - ideal for informal catch-ups, coffee breaks or light bites between sessions.

For planners, the real draw is the event space offering. The Westminster Ballroom is the hotel’s heavyweight option: a large, pillar-free space with a 12.8ft ceiling height that can comfortably handle conferences, awards ceremonies and gala dinners for up to 900. Natural daylight gives it an edge over many central London ballrooms, while flexible partitioning means it can be tailored to suit different formats. The adjacent 528-capacity Whitehall Suite works well as a reception or pre-function area, keeping guest flow seamless.

Smaller meetings are well catered for too. The newly refurbished Mayfair meeting rooms for up to 170 guests feel fresh and contemporary, with two now benefiting from natural light - always a win for productivity. A flexible partition allows the rooms to be combined for larger events, and there’s now a dedicated breakout area.

As you'd hope, accommodation is another strong point. The hotel has 237 guest rooms and suites, all recently renovated and finished in a calm, elegant style. Expect proper marble bathrooms (a nice surprise), signature bedding and plenty of storage. Some suites overlook Grosvenor Square itself, while others benefit from private garden or courtyard views – a rare treat in this part of town. Executive guests and loyalty members can also make use of the refurbished M Club Lounge, which offers breakfast, snacks and soft drinks throughout the day.

Food and drink is where the London Marriott Grosvenor Square really flexes its muscles, thanks to its Gordon Ramsay partnership. Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill is the hotel’s all-day dining option and an easy crowd-pleaser for planners looking to impress without intimidating guests. The vibe is relaxed and modern, belying the Mayfair postcode, and it works equally well for client dinners, hosted lunches or post-event meals.

The menu does what you’d hope: classic American grill dishes done properly. Starters like buffalo fried chicken with spicy ranch dressing or sweetcorn ribs with smoked garlic aioli set things off on a confident note, while the steaks are the real headline act. Dry-aged rib-eye and fillet are tender and full of flavour, with indulgent options like Wagyu, tomahawk cuts, or surf-and-turf additions of tiger prawns or half lobster for those feeling flush. Desserts stick to familiar favourites with a luxe twist - think Basque cheesecake with cherry compote and pistachio ice cream, or a rich 70 per cent chocolate brownie with hazelnut praline.

Also on site is Lucky Cat by Gordon Ramsay, a sultry Asian eating house and late-night lounge that’s ideal for entertaining VIPs or hosting a more glamorous evening event. And when the day is done, The Luggage Room - an award-winning, 1920s-inspired speakeasy - is a stylish spot for a cocktail or two, whether you’re debriefing with colleagues or impressing clients.

Sustainability is increasingly high on the agenda for UK planners, and Marriott’s approach here is worth noting. The hotel offers Meeting Impact Reports, estimated environmental metrics for events, and the option to offset carbon footprints by supporting climate action projects. It’s a practical, flexible way to help clients meet their own sustainability goals without adding complexity to the planning process.

The bottom line? The London Marriott Grosvenor Square combines five-star service, a genuinely prime location and versatile, well-thought-out event spaces. Add in crowd-pleasing Gordon Ramsay dining and a refreshed, contemporary feel, and you’ve got a Mayfair venue that makes life easier for planners – and leaves delegates well fed, well rested and suitably impressed.
