Madrid launches new digital platform to ensure sustainability of events
Spain’s spectacular capital has gone one step further in supporting events to minimise environmental impact

Madrid Convention Bureau has launched PLUS, its latest innovation to help event planners ensure that sustainability is built in to the planning of events from the design phase.
A new digital platform, PLUS (Platform for Legacy with US) allows the effective management of sustainability in events in direct support of the commitments established in the 17 SDG of the 2030 Agenda. Plus has been designed to facilitate contact between organisers and local agents to implement positive social, environmental and cultural impacts.
Welcoming Madrid

Madrid has long been a favourite destination for all manner of events. With its wide variety of excellent hotels and meeting venues, as well as professional suppliers, it offers something for every event. But it is its friendly welcome, exciting nightlife, gastronomy, architecture and stunning cultural offering that ensures it is beloved by visitors who return time and time again.
Long a pioneer in the field of sustainability, Madrid has worked hard to ensure events held in the city leave a positive lasting legacy. Last year the city launched a sustainability guide and this year it has developed the PLUS tool.
Why PLUS

Madrid Convention Bureau has been working for several years on the development of tools that make it easier for clients to incorporate sustainability criteria into the design of their meetings taking place in the city.
The new PLUS platform is available to all event planners and allows the generation of specific sustainability reports for each meeting. The reports contain recommendations to minimise the environmental and social impact of each event and it can calculate the CO2 emissions produced.

What differentiates this tool from other initiatives is that the analytical report is produced before the event is held, allowing corrective actions to be taken in the planning phase.

PLUS is aligned with the MICE Sustainability Guide prepared in 2020

Madrid is a member of the Best Cities Global Alliance, only open to those recognised as professionals in the sector.
