Manila to welcome Rotary International Convention 2028

Rotary International’s 119th convention will be held in Manila, Philippines, in June 2028. With 25,000 members and participants expected from around the world, it is set to be the largest and most multi-cultural gathering ever hosted in the country

More than 25,000 Rotary members and participants from around the world are expected to gather in Manila to connect, learn and share ideas for bringing positive, lasting change to international communities. The 119th annual Rotary convention is the first to be held in Manila.

“Manila’s diverse and lively culture reflects the global mosaic of our organisation,” says Rotary International President Jennifer Jones. “Making it the ideal city for our members and participants to connect and celebrate our friendships, cultures and the kaleidoscope of experience we bring to improving lives and strengthening communities around the world.”

Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco of the Philippine Department of Tourism said: "It gives us much pleasure and honour to receive Rotary International's vote of confidence. We are known for our legendary hospitality and take pride in the Filipino brand of service. Our expertise in the field, our facilities, complemented by our natural wonders, rich culture, and heritage, make the Philippines a fitting destination for this event.

“The Philippines prides itself on being Asia’s pioneer in hosting large-scale meetings and conventions. We are setting our sights on reclaiming our primary position as one of Asia’s most preferred destinations for international meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE),” she added.

Manila was home to the first chartered Rotary club in Asia 119 years ago.

Rotary is a global network of volunteer leaders dedicated to tackling challenges throughout the world by developing and implementing sustainable, community-driven projects. More than US$5.5 billion has been awarded through The Rotary Foundation to support programmes worldwide.

It connects 1.4 million people from more than 46,000 Rotary clubs in almost every country in the world.

Choose The Philippines

Comprised of 7,641 islands, the Philippines offers extraordinary variety for events from breathtaking beaches, diverse landscapes, thrilling ocean adventures, fascinating wildlife, exciting sport, rich culture and delicious gastronomy. But it is the warmth and friendliness of the Filipino people that truly leaves a lasting impression.

The country’s top MICE destinations run across Bacolod, Baguio, Bohol, Boracay, Cebu, Clark, Davao, Ilocos Region, Iloilo, Metro Manila, and Palawan.

Focusing on the four main travel hubs – Manila, Cebu, Davao and the Clark Freeport Zone - The Philippines is promoting its strengths for the MICE market under themes including: Health & wellness, Island getaways and Culture & heritage.

Palawan is a stunning archipelago province famous for the diversity of its wildlife and often listed among the world’s most beautiful beaches. Coron, the private island of Banwa, Amanpulo and the El Nido Resorts are rated highly for events.

There are fascinating cultural sites including the Walled City of Intramuros, the National Museum, Casa Manila and the San Agustin Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In Ilocos Sur, groups can learn about the traditional arts of pottery making and weaving in Vigan while the towns of Laoag and Paoay in Ilocos Norte are recommended for cultural tours.

Metro Manila is a favoured destination for large-scale events and it boasts all the modern infrastructure required from convention centres to international hotels together with an urban buzz that provides plenty of attractions for dining, networking, nightlife and shopping.

Within around an hour, however, event participants can be enjoying white-sand islands, magnificent scenery and sporting adventure.

Dedicated government support

Government initiatives, from promotional campaigns to incentive schemes, are helping to attract international event business. The TPB has a dedicated department overseeing MICE-related promotions.

Recently launched, the MICE Plus Program offers a range of incentive packages and privileges to international event organisers, while the Enhanced MICE Plus Program includes government support to events in both virtual and hybrid formats.
