Unique charm and variety of Coventry and Warwickshire
Coventry and Warwickshire is thriving as a conference, exhibition and events destination – with heritage, history, variety and innovation driving its growth
The Coventry and Warwickshire region’s comprehensive and diverse venue offer, coupled with its easily-accessible location and quality events supply chain, are making it a prime location for planners bringing events out of London. Easily accessible to the south and north of England, Birmingham Airport, which sees 12 million passengers pass through each year, is on its doorstep.
Delegates and visitors from London can reach Coventry in one hour by train from London Euston, with Leamington Spa and Warwick under 90 minutes from London Marylebone. By road, the region has five motorway connections and is located within a two-hour drive of 75 per cent of England.
History and heritage
But it is the history, heritage and regional charm that sets the area apart and Paul Jones, managing director of Conference Coventry and Warwickshire, says that the region’s offer is continuing to expand. In the last year alone, the region has seen unique event spaces including the Grade I listed St Mary’s Guildhall and Carthusian monastery Charterhouse re-open their doors.
“Coventry and Warwickshire is home to a collection of incredible venues, which means we are able to offer a wide range of experiences to event planners and buyers,” says Paul. “We have sport arenas, museums, heritage sites and traditional conference and exhibition spaces, all capable of hosting small and large-scale events.
“From Coventry Cathedral, the British Motor Museum, Coombe Abbey Hotel, Heart of England Conference Centre or the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, home to Dippy the Dinosaur for the next three years, there is a vast array of venues to suit all budgets and briefs – all within touching distance of the country’s two main population centres, Birmingham and London.”
Home to cutting-edge industry
While Coventry and Warwickshire has a great variety of venues, suppliers and organisers, it is also a key location for a cluster of the UK’s key sectors – which is making the region even more popular for organisers. Throughout the 20th century, Coventry was at the heart of the UK automotive industry and the automotive sector remains a major driver in the city, with the region now also leading the way in green technology and advanced engineering.
Leamington has grown in recent years to be a powerhouse in the video gaming industry – earning the moniker ‘Silicon Spa.’
Paul added: “While history and heritage is at the heart of our offer, we do have the contrast of being home to cutting-edge industries. This makes Coventry and Warwickshire an even more attractive proposition for sector-focused events.
“The locality and strength of our supply chain is also a major benefit. We have a bedrock of excellent suppliers here and event organisers can tap into that supply chain when coming to the region, providing a wealth of benefits including sustainability.”
