Just under an hour’s drive from Riga is Sigulda, the gateway to the Gauja National Park. With is glorious scenery, it is known as ‘the Switzerland of Latvia’. Here you can hike, organise adrenaline-fuelled adventure activities, host meals around a campfire with locally-caught fish and even dine in a Soviet-era nuclear bunker.

The newly-opened ATTA Centre is the largest convention centre in the Baltics and offers contemporary facilities for up to 3,000 in Riga.

Recent openings include the 239-room AC Hotel by Marriott, whose top floor meeting spaces look out over the city’s Art Nouveau district. In the Old Town, the Garden Inn by Hilton and the Pullman Riga Old Town are within walking distance of most major attractions. The Radisson Blu Latviia Conference & Spa Hotel has event space for up to 1,200 while the Grand Hotel Kempinski Riga has space for up to 360 in its conference suite.

The new University of Latvia Academic Centre, ideal for scientific conferences, offers views across the Daugava River towards the Old Town together with impressive architecture and modern facilities. The Riga Technical University campus offers easy access from the airport and has many hotels in the vicinity. Both academic venues are a great resource for speakers.

Former zeppelin hangars house Riga Central Market, great for a visit as part of a tour and also a memorable location for a party. If you’re looking for something more glamorous for a gala dinner, the ritzy Riga Latvian Society House or magnificent House of the Blackheads, built originally in 1334 as a place of celebration for merchants in the city, could be ideal. And for something completely different, take a look at Riga’s many former industrial spaces such as the Hanzas Perons cargo station or Gas Tower. The recently restored Soviet-era VEF Culture Palace was once a social venue for factory workers and is now an atmospheric venue.
