Buzz words come and go, but ‘immersive’ has clung on for some time.
Often used to describe
experiences that are, in fact, one-dimensional, it’s refreshing and exciting when
an immersive experience lives up to its name.
As did my
evening watching Baz Lurhmann’s newest film, Elvis – a fast-paced biopic of the rock
and roll star, Elvis Presley.
I was
immersed in all things Elvis from the moment I stepped out of Leicester Square
and into the cinema. A brightly-dressed and charismatic Elvis tribute act encouraged
guests to take photos with him. As foolish as I initially felt, I rushed in to
grab a photo with him before heading up to the event space for themed cocktails
and canapes.
Blue Suede
Shoes, Kiss Me Quick and The King cocktails and canapés including, cheeseburgers,
vegan burgers, Louisiana chicken and toffee apple pie, were served by venue staff
wearing Hawaiian leis and sunglasses.
There were Elvis-themed
props dotted around to ensure everyone got in the spirit of Elvis, and the photographer did a great job of capturing that spirit.
Before the
movie began, the Elvis tribute act sang ‘Burning Love’, ‘In the Ghetto’ and
‘Way Down’ - three of Elvis’ hits from the 70s. The audience was eager to see
the blockbuster, so as the lights went down and the ushers encouraged a little
less conversation, the luxury cinema experience came to life.
Wide, reclining
chairs with footrests and surround-sound did justice to Lurhmann’s newest work
of art.
While this experience
was dedicated to Elvis Presley’s fast-lived and colourful life, Vue
is keen to customise immersive experiences to meet your brief and ensure you
don’t get caught in the trap of a one-dimensional events.
