Madrid is the undisputed international hub between Europe and South America and has vast potential to become the primary gateway to North America thanks to the city's main airport, which operates direct flights to 200 destinations around the world. Madrid-Barajas reached 62 million passengers in 2019.
The international airport is located just 12 km from the city centre, which helps visitors to save money and time. Connected to the city by metro, train and bus 24/24, taxis offer a fixed rate of €20 or €30 from/to the airport, depending on the area in the city.
Madrid has a superb rail network of high-speed trains. Its strategic location in the centre of the country allows business tourists to easily become leisure tourists.

Climate & Weather
With 3,000 hours of sunshine a year and a Mediterranean climate, Madrid is a warm city. In winter, the temperatures range between 2 and 12 degrees centigrade and in summer 25 and 35. The breeze blowing down from the Guadarrama mountain is responsible for Madrid's permanent blue skies.

Madrid has 14 public holidays, 12 established by the Madrid Community, and two local ones established by the City of Madrid. They are 15 May (San Isidro Labrador, the city’s Patron Saint) and 9 November (Nuestra Señora de la Amudena, patron Saint of Madrid). Some holidays may change each year. It is worth mentioning that during local festivities, such as 15 May and 15 August, among others, streets and establishments in the Latina quarter are usually very busy.

Whether you are looking for an industrial space or a top historical palace, Madrid is your destination. Some of the venues more recently added to the Madrid catalogue are:
Palacio de Liria, official residence of the Dukes of Alba, this palace near Plaza de España opens its doors for the celebration of very exclusive events and guided visits of the family's art collection.
Green Patio: with five different spaces and ceiling heights above 10 metres, this old industrial warehouse located in the city centre, allows spectacular setups.
Canalejas Gallery: soon to open its doors, this high-level shopping and gastronomy centre is part of the Canalejas complex, together with the recently opened Four Seasons Madrid hotel.
Gran Teatro Bankia Príncipe Pío: an old train station converted into an auditorium theatre with large spaces for events, very close to Plaza de España.

Corporate Social Responsibility
Madrid is a green city. Municipality regulations ensure a commitment to sustainability through traffic and pollution control and promoting public transport in the city centre. The City Council has introduced regulations to reduce the negative impact of massive events in the city.
Madrid Convention Bureau applies 'green initiatives' to its work including reducing energy consumption and waste. It also encourages the use of public transport by attendees. Another measure of eco-sustainability and CSR has been the replacement of traditional promotional materials and merchandise, as well as stand construction material, by others that are recyclable or environmentally friendly and the production of merchandising with recycled materials on stands at fairs.
One of the main CVB projects accomplished in recent months has been the edition of the MICE Guide to Sustainability, available free on our website: an easy guide for implementing SDGs in the MICE sector.
