The
Alliance of Independent Event Agencies (AIEA) and Trident Hospitality are staging an event industry debate in collaboration with the Cambridge Union Society,
The debate takes place on Thursday 12 January 2023 in the famed Cambridge
Union Chamber. The debate motion will focus on ‘This house believes the UK
is failing and would rather go international.’
Kerry Walsh, MD of Hatch Events and AIEA chair, said: "As political events continue, we are reminded of the
importance of persuasive arguments and good oratory that appeal to both our
rational and emotional sides. Freedom of speech is defined by the ability to
see the other side. We should be able to challenge speech we consider unacceptable.
"As a result, we have joined forces to host a debate for the events sector that
may help to see opportunities beyond the UK or perhaps closer to home within
the UK, as well as provide you with a chance to talk about issues like rising
inflation, conflict, and growing domestic price increases. That’s why this
debate is so relevant in today’s ever evolving diverse landscape.
“It’s great we have got senior voices from across the supply chain
speaking at the debate. Brexit and the Pandemic will, and are, bringing
challenges for the whole industry, but we all share a common view and will
continue to collaborate to ensure we provide the best possible service to our
clients.”
Walsh added that although we all share a common theme with
working in the events industry, we all have unique skills and areas of
specialism, and discussing the location of our events is key to moving forward.
