There is no planet B isla event sustainability

The events industry has the ability to craft incredible experiences, but at what cost to the environment?

Historically, events, conferences and exhibitions have come with a hefty environmental footprint generated through travel, waste and energy usage. The average conference attendee creates around 177kg of CO2 emissions and produces 2kg of discarded waste per day - of which 1.16kg will end up in the landfill.

But events can be sustainable, environmentally friendly and socially conscious, and the six-week Complete Sustainable Events Course can help you to create greener events.

Whether you're an event planner or a supplier to the industry, have already started your sustainability journey or it's completely new to you, the course, now in its third year, gives you advanced learning to become an expert in sustainable events.

“As climate and nature reach critical tipping points, taking action and equipping oneself with knowledge and tools is not only the right thing to do, but the smart one. Building awareness and skills in event sustainability is an imperative for all event profs and while a course won’t change the world, this one will empower you to,” explained Anna Abdelnoor, CEO and founder of isla and Course co-lead.

Why should you sign up to The Complete Sustainable Events Course?

  1. Work with event sustainability heroes
While isla’s Anna Abdelnoor and Fyre Festival’s Andy King lead The Complete Sustainable Events Course, they have help on some modules from event professionals who care deeply about the sustainability of the industry. For example, Guy Bigwood, managing director of the Global Destination Sustainability Movement leads the ‘Supply chains and stakeholders’ modules looking at venues, sourcing, food, equality and the circular economy, while Helen Hodgkinson, co-founder of CACTUS, a forum to discuss how to decarbonise activities, takes the ‘Destination known’ module looking at defining carbon terminology and demystifying offsetting
  2. Sustainable event skills
You will learn how to measure and reduce the environmental impact of your events. At the end of the six-week course, you will have the option of submitting a carbon report, using your learnings from the course and isla's TRACE platform. TRACE helps you measure and minimise carbon at live, hybrid and digital events. Anna will help you create your own event plan and show you how you report on that post-event. Anna and her team will review your report, so you'll get helpful feedback and insights for your next event.
  3. Competitive advantage
As sustainability becomes a focal point for businesses and individuals, event professionals who can demonstrate their knowledge and ability to execute eco-friendly events will have a competitive edge. Clients are more likely to choose planners and event venues that can create events that align with their values and have a positive impact.
  4. Works around your schedule
All modules are pre-recorded and available to watch on-demand, meaning you can fit them in around your busy schedule.
  5. Interactive networking
Topics are broken down into six bite-sized modules and there will be two live Q&As so you can ask any questions you may have and use the virtual platform to chat with other students.
  6. Innovation and creativity
Embracing sustainability can spark creativity and innovation. Sustainable events often require out-of-the-box thinking to find eco-friendly alternatives and unique solutions, leading to more memorable and impactful experiences for attendees.
  7. Recognised certification
The Course is Continuing Professional Development (CPD) accredited. This is widely recognised as a valuable investment in one's professional growth across the globe. It's a process that involves acquiring new skills, knowledge, and experience to keep pace with the changing demands of one's profession. Of course, every student who completes the course will receive a certification at the end.
  8. High student satisfaction
The Complete Sustainable Events Course consistently receives great feedback from alumni with the 2022/20223 cohort giving the Course the Net Promoter Score of +41.
  9. No hidden costs
For £695 + VAT to enrol you will be CPD accredited in a crucially important subject and will be equipped with the knowledge and ability to implement positive changes in your events that will ensure they are more environmentally friendly.
  10. You'll be in great company
Finally, by signing up to The Complete Sustainable Events Course you will be joining major names including Chelsea Football Club, Santander, Volvo, CNN and PWC.
