The Society for Incentive Travel Excellence (SITE) has postponed its January 2022 Global Conference in Dublin.

The conference was due to take place on 27-31 January 2022, at the Convention Centre Dublin, but planners have cited “global restrictions and the rapid spread of the Omicron variant,” as the reason for the postponement.

January would have marked the return of the SITE Global Conference to Dublin for the first time since 1991 which saw 460 incentive travel professionals from 37 countries gather in the Irish city.

The global incentives association has said new dates would be announced in early January 2022.

This announcement comes after a wave of other major conference cancellations and postponements including IBT Berlin which was due to take place on 9-13 March 2022. This is the third consecutive year it has had to cancel due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Instead of the in-person conference, IBT Berlin will host a Digital Business Day on 17 March 2022 for buyers and suppliers to meet virtually and conduct business.

The next ITB Berlin conference is scheduled to take place March 8-12 2023.

The uncertainty caused by the ongoing pandemic has also forced the World Economic Forum to defer its Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland until early summer in 2022. The meeting was supposed to take place between 17-21 January 2022.

Last year, the World Economic Forum switched its Annual Meeting location from Switzerland to Singapore, the first time in the meeting’s 50-year history that it would have been held outside of Switzerland. However, the meeting was cancelled altogether because of the pandemic.
