A newly launched, action-focused guide will support meetings and
event venues to transition to net zero.
Net zero refers to the balance between the amount of
greenhouse gas produced, by a venue in this case, and the amount permanently removed from
the atmosphere. The Sustainability in practice: A Pathway for Venues
guide will help venues achieve that balance.
The guide is a practical framework for venues to review their
sustainability progress and implement short-to-midterm sustainability goals
and lay out a pathway to net zero by 2050 at the latest.
Anna Abdeloor CEO & co-founder of isla, said: “Against the
backdrop of the climate crisis, venues understand, and acknowledge, the part
they have to play in creating a net-zero future. This Pathway gives venues of all
sizes the guiding light they need to get there, in a way is practicable,
actionable and transformative for the industry.”
The guide is also being supported by three events industry association: the Association of Event Venues (AEV), the Meetings Industry Associations (mia)
and beam.
“These partnerships are so important because they widen the
reach of the Pathway and create alignment and standardisation across the
industry. The Pathway is a collaborative approach but we understand every venue
will be at a different stage on their sustainability journey," added Abdelnoor. "Part of this Pathway is about those venues who are ahead in the journey helping others that still have a way to go."
Paul Black, head of business events at VisitBritain added: “This
new Pathway will be a valuable tool to support our event venues to identify the
key areas to address and implement in their progress to net zero, especially
during the next critical decade. We are pleased to partner with isla on this Pathway.”
