BCD Meetings & Events
(BCD M&E) has published its annual Sustainability Guide, highlighting the challenges and
opportunities facing the industry in both benchmarking results and adopting
more sustainable practices.
BCD M&E’s 2025
Sustainability Guide outlines a
comprehensive approach to sustainability, offering organisations, meeting
planners, suppliers and destinations insights to make more informed and
responsible choices.
“Sustainability continues to shape conversations around how we plan and
deliver meetings and events,” said Bruce
Morgan, global president, BCD Meetings & Events. “In today’s evolving
political and economic environment, the topic of sustainability is complex, but
embracing practical solutions and creating smart partnerships opens the door to
positive change and lasting impact,” Morgan added.
The 2025 guide highlights key sustainable practices, including circular
economy principles and carbon reduction strategies, paired with simple approaches to sourcing sustainable meetings and events. It also showcases
sustainable destinations, hotels and suppliers, alongside BCD M&E’s
commitments to developing innovative solutions and forging industry
partnerships that drive impact for customers.
Key sections include:
- Shaping a more sustainable future: This section details the importance of reducing
carbon emissions, the significance of the Paris Agreement’s objectives,
and how individuals can take small steps when planning their events to
prioritise sustainability.
- Supporting clients, assessments & tools: BCD M&E has developed checklists to
help clients track sustainability and make key decisions, like choosing
venues and destinations. Additionally, BCD M&E has partnered with
organisations that help meetings and events businesses invest in carbon offsetting
projects and measure carbon emissions for event planners.
- Hotel and destination recommendations: These sections spotlight BCD M&E's hotel
partners' sustainability efforts and dive into leading destinations
worldwide. The guide spotlights five global cities that are driving
sustainability initiatives and accompanying hotel options are highlighted
based on their ability to reduce waste, prioritise renewable energy and
encourage guests to participate in a circular economy. It picks out Edinburgh as one of the top sustainable destinations worldwide, describing it as "a desirable destination working toward rigorous sustainability goals" and highlighting the Scottish capital's green spaces and public transport use.
