Lou Kiwanuka, founder of The Shaper Group and vice chair of Event Supplier and Services Association (ESSA), is launching an online training programme.
Lou Kiwanuka. The programme, ‘Ops in Lockdown’, is aimed at connecting operational event professionals and building their knowledge base during the restrictions enforced throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Since the launch of our training programmes earlier this year we have been overwhelmed with positive support from event operations professionals who are looking to upskill themselves and their teams,” said Kiwanuka.
“With many now on furlough, or who perhaps have additional capacity, it seems only right that we need to use this time effectively to ensure ongoing professional growth of our industry.”
The series of 20‐minute professional development sessions are designed for all employees whether they are continuing to work or have been placed on furlough. Latest government guidelines state furloughed employees may attend training.
The first session ‘Learning in Lockdown’ kicks off on Tuesday 21 April at 2pm BST and will give advice on how to plan and develop skills during this time.
The sessions will then take place every Tuesday at 2pm throughout lockdown, with the second session on Tuesday 28 April focused on ‘Time & Project Management’.
“Our first session will give candidates an idea of how to start that development in lockdown, the second session covers off some basics of project and time management."
The third session takes place on Tuesday 5 May and will see Kiwanuka joined by chartered occupational psychologist Dr Amanda Potter, to lead a session on ‘Resilience’.
"Dr Amanda Potter will be invaluable when it comes to gaining strength during times of adversity. Her methods are fantastic and I personally can’t wait to heed her advice. I look forward to seeing many professionals join us online.”
