A kickstarter event is the perfect way to bring your people together again, says Rachel Macaulay, head of Vue conferences and events.

With the doors to life flung open we can now feel free to put our heart and soul, once again, into events - and help other businesses put the va-va-voom back into theirs.

What better way to do this than by getting everyone together and holding an invigorating kickstarter meeting to shake up the sales team, beef up the strategy and boldly go where few have ventured for a couple of years?

What has happened to us? To business? Now we can look at it honestly with an eyes-peeled critique. Let’s face it, teams have become disconnected; people are struggling and disillusioned, strategy has gone by the wayside, and many have had to ‘make do and mend’ their business to stay alive. Now we have the OK for life to resume we need to repair what’s broken, and there’s a lot to do.

Much has been written about mental wellbeing and rightfully so. This needs to stay an integral part of our work-life culture. For team members to be brought back into the fold, to be honoured for fulfilling achievements, both small and big, and a sense of unity brought back to our corporate lives whilst ensuring that everyone is ok and feels supported when they’re struggling; many of whom are right now.

There are of course many ways we can exercise this, whether it’s taking the team out for a drink and reconnecting on an informal level, team bonding activities to encourage collective problem solving, being treated to a relaxing film screening or a shared activity such as learning to make pasta and then eating the fruits of the challenge together in a convivial setting. These all serve to create team connectivity and are vitally important to ensure the happiness and togetherness of the tribe.

Moving on to the next level we have big kickstarter engagements with the whole department or company in a large venue with big-screen presentations, invigorating speeches, great sound and vision and plenty to engage with to uplift the whole organisation. Nurturing a unified approach will encourage teams to feel the thrill of smashing those targets once more.

What is evident after all this disconnection, is that people want to feel included, they want to be part of something again and to get this right will take work. A little understanding that everyone has had a different experience throughout all of this and therefore isn’t necessarily on an even keel personally or professionally. Everyone could do with a little nurturing right now to get back on board, feel focused and bring their spirit back to life and to business again.
