Just 15 people out of 60,000 tested positive for Covid-19 following attendance at one of nine Events Research Programme pilot events.
This figure is in line with the broader population, confirmed the government spokesperson to Sky News, with the average infection rate at 22 infections per 100,000 people.
Results from the nine pilot events, which included the Change Business for Good event, three football matches at Wembley Stadium and the World Snooker Championships, will be used by the government to shape its policy for the return of how people attend events.
A government spokesman said: "The aim of our world-leading Events Research Programme is to examine the risk of Covid-19 transmission at large events and explore how crowds can be welcomed back in bigger numbers safely.
“The pilots have been designed in a scientifically controlled way to reduce the risk of transmission for attendees. We are working closely with NHS Test and Trace to ensure everyone can be traced following a positive test."
Attendees at the pilot events were not required to socially distance, wear masks or adhere to other Covid-19 safety measures. However, it was compulsory for all attendees to provide a negative Cvodi-19 test result before entering the venue.
They were also asked to take PCR tests at home, before and after they attended the events.
At this stage, the government has not revealed which trial events were attended by the 15 people who contracted Covid, or whether they tested positive before the events or afterwards.
