Industry charity foundation Meeting Needs is aiming to pass a quarter of a million pounds raised through the Royal Parks Half Marathon as it celebrates 10 years of taking part in the annual fundraising event.

The foundation has already recruited 28 runners and walkers for this year's race in October and is looking to fill a further 12 places on its team.

Meeting Needs trustee Kate Conway, who coordinates the charity's participation each year, said the event has become a key part of the foundation's fundraising calendar.

"We have a great team spirit among our participants and we even have couples joining us like Esther Clark and Chris Middleton and Thomas Diaz and Imane Amrani," she said.

"I am hoping to fill the remaining slots in the next few weeks so they have plenty of time left for raising cash."

Among this year's participants are colleagues Ryan Doyle and Sigita Pjampite from Switch, while fellow trustee Chris Xenophontos currently tops the fundraising leaderboard with £480. Xenophontos was also the early leader in last year's campaign before being overtaken by eventual top fundraiser Charlotte Bliss.

Conway also highlighted several newcomers and returning supporters.

"For the first time this year we have a runner from Center Parcs, Hermione Cole, whereas Maris Kuklis is one of the stalwarts who runs often for the Meeting Needs team," she said.

Meeting Needs supports projects that improve the lives of disadvantaged people through the meetings and events industry. Since joining the Royal Parks Half Marathon a decade ago, the charity has raised almost £250,000 through the event.

The foundation is encouraging more industry professionals to join the team ahead of October's race.
