Industry charity Meeting Needs
is urging event professionals to donate to The Sparkle Foundation as it
provides emergency aid and refuge in the aftermath of Cyclone Freddy in Malawi.
More than 200 people have died
and more than 19,000 have been displaced after Malawi was hit by Cyclone
Freddy, one of the most powerful storms ever recorded in the southern
hemisphere, last week.
Many eventprofs will know The Sparkle
Foundation after founder Sarah E Brook highlighted the charity’s work at last year's M&IT Awards. Brook is currently out in Malawi leading The Sparkle Foundation’s
emergency disaster response.
Posting on Linkedin, she said: “Cyclone Freddy has claimed
hundreds of lives, many still missing and thousands of people have lost their
homes.
“Our team are doing all we can to rescue people trapped in
the floods, provide shelter, nutrition and medical support.
“We had to leave people behind yesterday because we didn’t
have boats to reach them. Houses are collapsing on children, but we have no
equipment to rescue them, not even helmets. It is heartbreaking.
“Please spread the word and help raise awareness across the
international community so the world may hear us and send help.
“Sparkle needs you. Malawi needs you. Humanity needs you.
A small contribution can go a long way.”

Meeting Needs chair Chris Peacock said: “Anyone who attended the M&IT
Awards last year will remember Sarah's wonderful story of how she founded The
Sparkle Foundation and the amazing work they do in Malawi.
“They need our help right now following the devastating
effects of Cyclone Freddy. Sparkle are sheltering people at their sites and
assisting with food, medical support, clothes and blankets.”
