Eurostar has showcased the ease of travelling from London to IBTM World in Barcelona by
international high-speed rail as it reignites its focus on the sector.
Representatives
from Eurostar, London and Partners, Mike
Fletcher from IBTM Show Daily team and Evolve Events left London St
Pancras for Paris by Eurostar on Sunday 27 November where they spent a night before
continuing on to Barcelona the following day. The journey time from London to
Paris is 2h15, with passengers able to connect on from Paris to Barcelona in
just over six hours by high-speed rail.
At
IBTM, Eurostar and the London Convention Bureau are showcasing London as a
leading destination for business events, as well as the option to connect
sustainably by high-speed rail. With a person’s carbon footprint from one
flight being the same as making 13 Eurostar journeys, Eurostar is selling itself as the greener way to go between the UK and mainland Europe.
“Travel is a huge part of the meeting and events
industry, and we want to demonstrate the benefits of choosing sustainable
high-speed rail to connect seamlessly between some of Europe’s most important
business destinations," said Inge Bauwens, senior lead at Eurostar for business & partnerships.
"We
are travelling from London to Barcelona by train showing travellers how to make
the most of their trip; as well as being the greener way to go rail travel
offers the space and freedom on-board to make better use of time, whether it’s
for work or relaxation.”
Barbara
Jamison-Woods, head of Europe at London Convention Bureau, said: “Partnering with Eurostar on our journey by train from
London to Barcelona highlights that London is committed to a sustainable
future. Low-carbon rail links to mainland Europe make the city easily
accessible.
"London
is the ideal city to host sustainable business events – and the London
Convention Bureau team can help clients put sustainability at the core
of their planning. London and
Partners’ programme is aligned with the Mayor of London’s ambition to make
London a net zero carbon city by 2030 and London is the world’s first National
Park City”
Eurostar
