Beam, the association for business events, accommodation and meetings, will run a buddy system for first-time attendees at CHS Birmingham.

The initiative, which it debuted at CHS Leeds in April, is designed to support newcomers to the industry and make first-time visitors to its trade shows, feel ‘welcomed, connected and confident.’

Any first-time attendee registering for CHS Birmingham, which takes place at ICC Birmingham on 28 October, will be able to opt in for a free ‘beam buddy’, a beam-approved industry professional, who will help them navigate the show.

The buddy will share insider tips, facilitate introductions to the right people and support visitors with networking.

David Tremmil, beam vice chair, said: “Walking into a big event for the first time can be daunting, but with a friendly guide at your side, the experience becomes energising instead of overwhelming. Our partnership with CHS is growing stronger with every event, and we’re proud to be making the industry even more open, welcoming, and accessible to new talent.”

Beam buddies will be present at the pre-event drinks reception at Sandbox VR to aid networking and introductions there. At the show, attendees will be able to find their buddy at the beam Buddy Station near registration.

Michelle Rennoldson, event director at CHS, said “CHS Birmingham is shaping up to be one of our most exciting shows yet, and with more first-time visitors joining us, the buddy system is the perfect way to make sure they get the very best from the experience. We’re delighted to be working with beam again to create opportunities for learning, connection, and confidence building across our industry.”
