Vienna hosted more international association meetings than any other city last year, according to the latest rankings from the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).

The Austrian capital staged 162 meetings to take the top spot ahead of Lisbon (144) in second place and Paris in third (134). In a top 10 dominated by European cities, Barcelona came fourth (133), Prague fifth (129, followed by Madrid (128), Berlin (133), Athens (109), Brussels (108) and London (106).

The USA once again topped the country rankings with 690 meetings, followed by Spain (528), Italy (522), Germany (484), France (472) and the United Kingdom (449), Portugal (294), Netherlands (253), Belgium (234) and Canada (233).

The rankings were based on 10,500 internationally rotating meetings held in 2022.

Christian Woronka, director of B2B Management and head of the Vienna Convention Bureau, said:  "I would like to thank our partners in the destination and, of course, my team at the Vienna Convention Bureau of the Vienna Tourist Board - with our combined efforts we were once again able to catapult Vienna to the top of the global congress destinations.

“We see this latest success as a mandate to continue working with full energy on Vienna's future as a meeting metropolis. We currently have around 200 applications for congresses and corporate meetings. We are positioning the city as a modern meeting destination and a model city in the area of ecological and social sustainability."

Senthil Gopinath, CEO of ICCA, said: “The ICCA Rankings always generates huge industry interest. It’s heartening to see the drive towards in-person meetings is once again very strong and we predict this trend will grow throughout the coming year.”
