Pharma and healthcare companies top the league table for London meetings and events, followed by the energy sector, according to Amex GBT.

The software and services company has launched its inaugural Business Travel Pulse - a quarterly benchmark. The first edition focuses on London and reveals the top five sectors holding meetings in London are as follows:

  1. Pharma and healthcare
  2. Mining, oil, energy and utilities
  3. Consumer goods and retail
  4. Information technology
  5. Financial services and insurance

Internal meetings are the most popular meeting type, as companies bring their people together to strategise, create, or strengthen culture.

The report also reveals that Helsinki and Bengaluru are London’s fastest-growing business travel air connections, hinting at emerging sources of economic activity.

Sara Andell, director of strategy, Amex GBT Consulting, said: “London remains a priority destination on the global stage, with international businesses keen to capitalise on opportunities in the UK. Recent landmark trade agreements underscore the city’s role as a hub for meeting and dealmaking and it’s particularly interesting to see the growth in travel from emerging tech hubs like Helsinki and Bengaluru – further evidence of London’s magnetic pull for innovation-led industries.”

London continues to draw business travellers from across the world, with Heathrow Airport reporting its busiest February on record in 2025. The airport now serves more than 200,000 passengers daily and is the fourth busiest in the world.

New York remains the top source of air travel to London, with domestic and European cities making up the remainder of London’s top 10 air routes by volume.
