An election
to appoint a new chair for the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for events
has been called for 22 October.
The election,
which will take place in Parliament, has been called following the resignation of
Shaun Davies MP who stepped down as chair in September after he was appointed parliamentary
private secretary to the secretary of state for defence.
Parliamentary rules prevent a member of the Government from
chairing an APPG.
Gill German MP for Clwyd North and member of the Welsh Affairs
Select Committee has been nominated as chair elect of the APPG, with Martin
Rhodes MP for Glasgow North, stepping into the role of vice chair.
An APPG for
events spokesperson said: “We look forward to welcoming our parliamentary members
to the extraordinary general meeting on 22October, and to electing
a new chair to ensure that the important work of the APPG continues and that we
work in partnership with the events sector to strengthen the industry’s voice
in Parliament and across Westminster.”
The APPG
for events has 34 parliamentary members and 10 corporate members: beam, Raccoon Media Group, Togather, Event
Hire Association, SEC, Association of Events Venues, Experience Oxfordshire
Venues, Meetings Industry Association, Manchester Central and Telford
International Centre. Davies Tanner manages and acts as special advisor through
its Business of Events Think Tank and Advocacy Network.
