An increasing number (88%) of event professionals have used AI in the last year, but few of them know more than the basics, a survey by CHS Birmingham has revealed.

The research found that while 71% of people in the industry are using AI on a daily or weekly basis in their work, 58% admitted they don't really understand how it works and many are still concerned about its impact on the industry.

Despite this paradox, a growing number are adopting AI with 70% of respondents reporting they are actively experimenting with the technology right now.

The snapshot survey carried out two months ahead of CHS Birmingham revealed that 88% of event professionals see AI as a useful tool to save time on administrative tasks.

However, despite widespread adoption, significant anxieties remain. Seventy-five per cent of respondents cite data privacy and security as their primary concern, while 67% worry about losing the human touch that makes events special. The survey reveals an industry caught between excitement and apprehension, with 54% believing AI will be essential for staying competitive within just two years.

AI in the events industry will be top of the conference agenda at CHS Birmingham, which takes place at ICC Birmingham on 28 October. Main Stage sessions under the title "You and AI: Hope, Hype or Headache," will directly addresses the questions keeping event professionals awake at night.
