Sophie Beasor has been appointed as the new general manager at the Event Marketing Association (EMA), taking over from Priya Narain.
The EMA is a UK industry association for the in-house corporate event professional with more than 1,200 members across the UK. Beasor will be taking over from Narain in overseeing the day-to-day running of the association and supporting the council and committees to drive the strategy forward over the coming year.
EMA grew its membership significantly during Covid and provided support to its members through regular weekly webinars of learning and discussions. EMA launched two major initiatives this year setting up working groups to look at and improve both DEI and sustainability; one of Beasor's key roles will be to support the working groups on these initiative and help drive engagement and adoption of recommendations EMA puts out to its members.
Commenting on her appointment, Beasor said: “I am extremely grateful for this fantastic opportunity and look forward to working with the EMA towards a more inclusive and sustainable future for events. As a 2020 graduate in event management, I hope I can bring a fresh perspective to the association and I look forward to learning from the very best in our industry.”
EMA chair Richard Waddington added: “We’re very sad to lose Priya, she has done some great work over the past year. We had overwhelming interest in the role, Sophie stood out with her passion for the industry, her confidence and communication capabilities. The EMA Council and I are really looking forward to working with Sophie and our partners over the coming months, especially as our industry and members return to live events.”
