As businesses grapple with the challenges of working from home, one of the UK’s largest corporate events companies is harnessing the latest gamification technology as it bids to help organisations keep employees engaged and focused.

Team Challenge Company has become one of the first in the UK to develop technology that allows for team building activities to be delivered remotely.

The new products signal a major shift for the team building industry, which typically relies on face-to-face interaction. Since the government-imposed lockdown came into force in March, Team Challenge Company has developed a number of standalone virtual team building events.

The portfolio of solutions being launched includes a number of activities specifically designed to address challenges of working from home, including communication, collaboration and improved efficiency. Largely delivered through video-conferencing platforms and interactive gaming technology, the suite of remote team building options aim to offer a viable virtual alternative to team development during lockdown.

Jonathan Hazley, co-director at Team Challenge Company, said: “Team Challenge Company, like all other organisations, has had to adapt. Combining our extensive experience with the latest technology we have found an effective way to take team building online.

“This goes far beyond offering interactive quiz games. We, along with our network of global partners, have developed a number of high-level team building activities which focus on complex issues with the aim of improving communication, problem-solving and collaboration.”

Team Challenge Company delivers more than 400 corporate events annually and counts Sky, Royal Bank of Scotland, Sainsburys and RSM UK on its portfolio of clients.

Team Challenge Company MD Gerard Crowley added: “People might be physically distant, but the need for communication and collaboration has never been greater.

“As employees grapple with the strains of working from home, both their physical and mental wellbeing can come under pressure. In turn, they can become disengaged, demotivated and less focused on tasks. A business cannot succeed without its people, and at time of unprecedented disruption supporting your workforce to tackle the challenges in front of them is absolutely crucial.

“The current crisis will undoubtedly impact the shape of the industry for years to come. What is clear is that the use of technology will become more prevalent, and these innovative team building options offer a viable solution to businesses looking to maintain their connection with their remote working team.”

The remote team building solutions being offered by Team Challenge Company include:

• Infinite Loop – designed continual improvement and developing team dynamics • The Big Quiz Live – designed to energise and engage • Escape the Mob – designed to encourage collaboration and creative thinking • Globe Runner – designed to motivate and re-connect teams • Virtual Big Quiz – designed to reward and re-connect staff • Peak Performance – designed to encourage collaboration and decision making • Race Around the World – designed to encourage communication skills and critical thinking • Meditainment – designed to promote mental wellbeing, and encourage good living and working environment • Blockbusters Remote – designed to encourage collaboration, strategic planning and multi-tasking • In the Picture – designed to encourage expression, creativity and imperative of receptive language in effective communication
