ASM Global has taken over the running of two of Sheffield's most popular event venues, with investment promised across both sites.

The operator has taken over Sheffield City Hall and the Utilita Arena from Sheffield City Trust, and has promised a series of upgrade works at both venues.

The Utilita Arena will see upgraded concourses, new supersuite spaces and a revamped backstage area. Self-service bars are set to be introduced, while the work will also increase the venue’s 13,600 capacity.

Over at Sheffield City Hall the focus will be on preserving the cultural heritage of Sheffield’s main conference venue, while elevating the delegate experience.

An ASM Global – Europe spokesperson said: “This marks the start of an exciting new chapter for these two iconic venues, as we focus on delivering a world-class guest experience to fans across the region.

“We’re very proud to be working alongside Sheffield City Council to invest in the future of these beloved venues, ensuring they remain at the heart of the community while competing on a global stage.”

Council leader Tom Hunt said: "We have big ambitions to develop Sheffield's events offer even further and our new partnership with ASM Global will ensure our city continues to have fantastic venues for the best events."

ASM Global’s network of more than 350 venues collectively host 20,000 events and welcome 164 million guests every year.

Enhancement works are set to get underway this month and will continue throughout the year, with the venues remaining open for the duration.
