Mentoring programme Fast Forward 15 (FF15), is launching University Challenge, a new programme designed to connect students with the opportunities the industry has to offer.
The launch is in response to the sector's potential talent crisis, with
university enrolments in event management degree courses decreasing over the
past decade.
This decline has the potential to jeopardise the future of an industry that thrives on
creativity, innovation, and fresh talent.
The talent cap: a call to action
The number of students pursuing event management degrees has
seen a significant drop over the last several years. The covid-19 pandemic,
cost of living, and a lack of career visibility in schools have left some
questioning the viability of a career in the industry.
Fay Sharpe, founder of Fast Forward 15, is determined to reverse
this trend. “As an industry, we need to act now. We must show students that
pursuing an events degree opens doors to incredible opportunities. If we don’t,
we risk losing this vital talent pool. The University Challenge is our way of
bridging the gap between universities and the industry while inspiring students
to see the potential of an events career.”
What is the Fast Forward 15 University Challenge?
The initiative invites teams of three to six students currently
enrolled in event management courses to create, plan, and deliver a real-life
charity event in support of industry fundraising body Meeting Needs.
Mentorship: Each team will be paired with an experienced FF15
mentor to guide them.
Industry Training: Participants will receive professional
training on Cvent’s event registration system, gaining hands-on
experience.
Seed Funding: Approved teams will be granted seed funding to
help bring their ideas to life.
Prizes: The winning team will earn £1,000, exclusive mentoring
sessions with Fay Sharpe and industry leaders, plus invitations to prestigious
industry events.
