A cabinet reshuffle has seen Lucy Frazer appointed as the new secretary of state for the revamped Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

Formerly known as the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, the department has ditched its digital responsibilities.

A new-look Department for Culture, Media and Sport will "recognise the importance of these industries to our economy", said prime minister Rishi Sunak.

The reshuffle also saw the Department for International Trade join the Business Department to create a new Department for Business and Trade (DBT), led by former Tory leadership candidate Kemi Badenoch.

The events sector is expected to now have greater crossover with the DBT, although it still officially falls under the remit of the DCMS, under tourism. Stuart Andrew remains the tourism minister.

Lucy Frazer is the MP for South East Cambridgeshire and served as a minister in the Levelling Up department from October 2022. She replaces former culture secretary Michelle Donelan, who will now head up the newly created Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).

DCMS has seen a high volume of ministerial turnover, with 12 secretaries of state since the 2010 election.

Prime minister Rishi Sunak said: "A combined Department for Business and Trade will support growth by backing British businesses at home and abroad, promoting investment and championing free trade.

"Finally, a re-focused Department for Culture, Media and Sport will recognise the importance of these industries to our economy and build on the UK’s position as a global leader in the creative arts."
