MP Nigel Huddleston
has left his role as tourism minister at the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.
Since February 2020 Huddleston
had been the government minister responsible for business events.
In a tweet, he
announced that he was leaving his role to become a government whip.
He said: “I'm leaving @DCMS
& heading to the Whips Office. Thanks to all the great people I've worked
with on: Commonwealth Games, Tourism Recovery, Sports Survival Package, Culture
Recovery Fund, Fan Led Review, CS & Youth, Grassroots Facilities, Heritage
& so much more...”
Huddleston officially opened The
Meetings Show in 2021, showing support for the sector by championing a return
to in-person meetings post-Covid and taking the time to meet UK and international event suppliers and buyers.
The Meetings Industry
Association thanked him for his support and enthusiasm for the sector.
On Twitter, the
MIA said: “Thank you for your endless commitment to the Events Industry, your
genuine enthusiasm for the sector and the support you have given during your
time as Tourism Minister. You will be missed.”
His replacement as
tourism minister at DCMS is yet to be announced.
