BCD M&E has announced that this year’s Vanessa Cotton Scholarship is
now open for applicants.
In partnership with MPI UK & Ireland, the scholarship will
provide an individual who is based in the UK with a paid 18-month internship. The
immersive, expertise driven opportunity is designed for passionate students
looking to learn and develop their careers within the meetings and events
industry.
Russel Abercrombie, the recipient of the 2024 Vanessa Cotton Scholarship, said: “Having
studied the industry to an in-depth level at university, I was interested to
find out just quite how wide the scope of meetings and events truly is - even within BCD
M&E itself. My general impression of the meetings and events industry was
that you call a hotel and book a space, which I know now couldn’t be further
from the truth.
“Throughout the last few months, I’ve felt my confidence and
skillsets grow and improve. The most rewarding part of the experience has been
the support and encouragement from the people I’ve met. As I write this, I’m
six months in and can already see my career path opening up for me which is
unbelievably exciting.”
The deadline to apply for the scholarship is Friday 11 April 2025.
The Vanessa Cotton Scholarship was created in 2011 by MPI UK & Ireland in honour of UK event industry veteran Vanessa Cotton, a champion of young meeting professionals. She had a long and distinguished career in the UK meetings & events industry and passed away in 2010 after a battle with cancer.
